Chandigarh, June 27 (IANS) The Haryana government Sunday assured nearly 1,600 policemen, who were dismissed in 2001 following a Supreme Court order, that they would be rehabilitated in suitable posts.

Finance Minister Ajay Singh Yadav said that the matter pertaining to the adjustment of the dismissed policemen was still pending with the state government and had not been rejected.

The policemen had been dismissed after the apex court found that their selection was not done as per procedure.

Yadav said that legal opinion sought in this matter had suggested that the age limit be relaxed in certain cases to accomodate the dismissed policemen.

A committee has been set up under Agriculture Minister H.S. Chatha to resolve the issue.
