Chandigarh, Sep 9 (Inditop.com) Normal life was disrupted in the union territory of Chandigarh and neighbouring regions of Punjab and Haryana as heavy rain Wednesday led to water-logging and traffic jams in various places.

“Most parts of the region have received heavy to very heavy rainfall that started late Tuesday night. The eastern parts of Punjab and Haryana got very heavy rainfall and we are expecting this phenomenon to continue for another two-three days,” Chatar Singh Malik, director of Chandigarh meteorological centre, said.

“In a span of just three hours, between 8.30 to 11.30 a.m., it had rained around 80 mm in Chandigarh that led to water logging in various parts of the city. The rainfall has also led to a marginal decline in the mercury,” Malik said.

There were traffic jams on roads in the union territory and motorists were seen stranded, pulling or pushing their vehicles that had broken down mid-way.

“There was a flood like situation on the roads. I had gone to drop my children to school and the distance that we used to cover in just 15 minutes, took over an hour. This is a sheer failure of MC (municipal corporation) as they did not make arrangements to tackle this situation,” said Ashish Sharma, a resident of Chandigarh.

Another resident, Satpal Singh, said: “I missed my job interview as my motorcycle broke down because water had gone into its engine.”
