Shimla, Feb 29 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Wednesday paved the way for its civil servants to take early retirement.

‘Service rules have been amended so that unproductive administrative, police and forestry services officials could be easily retired before their actual superannuation age of 60 years’, an official said.

The state cabinet at its meeting here presided over by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal amended the Himachal Pradesh Civil Services (Premature Retirement) Rules, 1976.

Now any officer who has completed 20 years in service can opt for premature retirement.

Earlier, the officers could not take premature retirement till they turned 45.

The official said the new rules would also help the officers who after completing 20 years of service want to serve some multinational company or are keen to take up foreign assignments.

The amended rules would entitle the civil servant to get pension in accordance with prevailing central government rules.

‘The government’s decision is simply to clear the deadwood at an early stage of service,’ an official remarked.
