Kolkata, April 30 (IANS) Historian Gautam Bhadra was Saturday conferred with the prestigious Bengali literary award, Ananda Puraskar, for his latest book ‘Nyara Bot-tolaye Jai Ko-bar?’ here.

Bhadra was presented the award for the Bengali calendar year 1417 by his teacher Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research.

The Ananda Puraskar is an award for Bengali literature awarded annually by Ananda Publishers.

Bhadra’s book is based on extensive research on the ‘Bat-tala books’ of the 1840s that formed an integral part of the early expression of the newly-learnt art of printing and were an important source of subaltern culture, an offering indepth, extraordinary and original insight into Bengal’s culture and history.
