Jammu, Sep 30 (IANS) Security forces busted a Hizbul Mujaheedin terrorist hideout Sunday and recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition meant to carry out strikes in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
“Police launched a search operation on a tip-off in an area falling under the jurisdiction of police station Chatroo in Kishtwar district of Jammu region this morning,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
“A column of 11 Rashtriya Rifles joined the operation. The area was cordoned off and the troops located the hideout of terrorists deep inside the jungle,” he said.
“Four .303 rifles, one Pika gun, one AK-47 rifle, two RPG (rocket propelled grenade) launchers, one UBGL (under-barrel grenade) launcher, four .12 bore rifles, two UBGL grenades, four rounds of RPG, one bomb of 60 mm mortar, two magazines of SLR (self-loading rifle), four magazines of AK-47 rifle, nine gelatine sticks, 10 electric detonators, one binocular (Pakistan-made), two hand grenades and 999 rounds of different weapons were recovered,” he said.
“The hideout belonged to Hizbul Mujaheedin terrorists Muhammad Amin alias Jahangir, district commander and Shakir Hussain alias Chota Hafiz, tehsil commander. The hideout was deep inside the jungle with an inconspicuous entry. It could easily accommodate two to three terrorists with sufficient stocks,” the official added.
“The destruction of this hideout is likely to seriously disrupt the movement of terrorists in the area,” he said.
