Hyderabad, Feb 29 (IANS) For the second time in a row, the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has been awarded the prestigious National Tourism Award 2010-11 under the ‘Best Airport’ category.
President Pratibha Patil presented the award to Vikram R. Jaisinghani, chief executive officer of GHIAL, at a ceremony in New Delhi Wednesday.
The ministry of tourism presents the National Tourism Awards to various segments of the travel and tourism industry every year.
With their recent ‘Fly via Hyderabad’ campaign, the airport has been working closely with the domestic airlines to develop connectivity with tier II/III Indian cities, transforming the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport into south and central India’s gateway and hub of choice.
Recently, the airport also created a unique facility called transfer assistance to assist transfer passengers and provide them a great experience while transiting through Hyderabad.
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63 percent) in partnership with the government of India (13 per cent), the government of Andhra Pradesh (13 per cent), and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (11 per cent).
