New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS) The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), celebrating the 143rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Tuesday organised a book exhibition at Raj Ghat here.

The exhibition, aimed at reviving the Gandhian spirit in youngsters through books, was inaugurated by IGNOU’s Vice-Chancellor Gopinath Pradhan.
The university offers Ph.D., M.Phil., Masters’ degree and post-graduation certificate courses in Gandhi and Peace Studies.
“Nearly 2,000 students and employees of the university visited the exhibition. National Book Trust also exhibited their books on Mahatma Gandhi,” said a statement by the university.
Strains of his favourite ‘bhajans’ played and an all-religion prayer service was conducted as the nation’s leadership gathered to remember the apostle of peace Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.
The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti across the country. It is also marked as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Gandhi, born this day in 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat, was assassinated Jan 30, 1948.
