New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) Delhi received incessant rains for the second consecutive day Sunday, with the mercury dipping to make for a pleasant weekend. The weatherman forecast more rains Monday.
According to the met department, the city recorded 62.7 mm of rain in the 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. Sunday.
From 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., 8.1 mm rain was recorded, the met office said.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 32.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average, while the minimum was 24 degrees Celsius, three notches below average for this time of the season, an official of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The humidity level oscillated between a high of 97 percent and a low of 61 percent.
‘The maximum temperature on Monday is likely to be 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be 25 degrees Celsius,’ the official said.
More rains are expected Monday. ‘There will generally be a cloudy sky with few spells of rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours (till Monday evening). It may be heavy in some areas of the capital,’ the official said.
Despite the incessant rain Sunday, motorists did not face traffic jams like the ones seen Saturday as the volume of traffic on road was low because of it being a weekend.
After Saturday’s showers, the control room of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi received 94 complaints of water-logging, 20 complaints related to falling of trees and five reports of buildings collapsing, an official said.
Saturday was the wettest day of the season for the national capital that recorded 62.5 mm rainfall. This season, the city has received a total 306.2 mm of rain — 7 percent more than the average.
The continuous rainfall disrupted normal life for commuters Saturday with flooding in low-lying areas causing traffic snarls in many areas.
