Khowai (Tripura), Feb 3 (IANS) Border guards from India and Bangladesh will meet every four months to resolve border disputes and check cross-border movement of militants, it was decided at a meeting of senior officials of the two sides, a Border Security Force (BSF) official said here Friday.
Senior officials of Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a high level meeting at this border town, 70 km north of Tripura capital Agartala also decided to intensify security to check crime of various kinds.
‘Officials of BSF and BGB decided to meet every four months to improve the situation along the border and also to give better protection to people living along both sides of the boundaries,’ BSF spokesperson Sudhir Kumar told reporters.
‘Border guard officials have identified several vulnerable points and easy routes for illegal perpetrators. Security would be further tightened in these identified areas.’
The 16 member BSF delegation was headed by its deputy inspector general Arun Kumar Thambi while the BGB team was led by its deputy director general Mohammad Khairujjaman.
The BSF handed over a list of camps set up by militants in the northeast.
‘The troopers of the BSF and BGB would undertake joint patrolling along the disputed, vulnerable and crime prone areas of the India-Bangladesh border,’ the BSF official said.
Border fencing was also discussed.
Four northeastern states – Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam – share a 1,880 km border with Bangladesh, some of it unfenced and running through dense forests, making it porous and vulnerable.
