New Delhi, June 30 (IANS) Indians Thursday witnessed a rare sight when Venus was eclipsed by the Moon as seen from the Earth.
‘The eclipsing, called occultation, took place between 1.18 p.m. and 2.41 p.m. in India,’ an official from the Science Popularization Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) told IANS.
‘There have been many night-time lunar occultations of Venus but this time it was special as it happened in broad daylight in India,’ he added.
According to SPACE, the occultation was similar to what happens during a solar eclipse – when moon covers the sun. It was visible in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
‘In western Africa, it was visible during sunrise while other countries witnessed it during day time. The first location where the Moon eclipsed Venus was Tripoli,’ added the official.
