New Delhi, July 30 (IANS) A bus ferrying undertrials from Tihar Jail to Rohini district courts ploughed into a bus stop here Saturday, killing one and injuring five, police said.

The accident took place at Madhuban Chowk in west Delhi.

Arun Kumar Mamgain, in his mid 50s, died on the spot, a police officer said. None of the undertrials was injured.

Eyewitnesses said that the bus was being driven at a very high speed.

Shefali, who was amongst the injured, told IANS: ‘I was waiting at the bus stop when I saw the bus jump and headed towards us. The whole bus shelter collapsed as a result of the accident. The locals came to our aid.’

The injured were rushed to the Bhim Rao Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.

Another injured, Anita said: ‘How could the driver drive at such a high speed on this road? Most of us have suffered head injuries.’

Shockingly, the driver did not care to stop the bus after the accident. The vehicle was later recovered by the police from Tihar Jail in west Delhi.

The driver, Assistant Sub-Inspector Brahm Singh, has been arrested.
