Panaji, Aug 30 (IANS) The Bombay High Court’s retired judge S.K. Shah will in September begin his probe into the murder of two young tribal activists during a rally in Goa in May this year, a statement said Tuesday.
The statement, issued by the state government’s department of information and publicity, added that the role of tribal leaders into stoking the agitation will also be probed.
‘The collector and district magistrate, South Goa district, in an order issued today has called upon all the interested persons who had witnessed the incident and having knowledge to depose before the honourable Shah Commission,’ the communique said.
Goa experienced a tensed few days during the last week of May, after the two activists, Dilip Velip and Manguesh Gaonkar, of the United Tribal Associations Alliance (UTAA) were killed during a tribal rights rally in South Goa.
Tribal leaders have claimed that the police were in league with the killers.
