New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) The Supreme Court Thursday complimented “enlightened citizens and NGOs” for doggedly pursuing the exposing the 2G spectrum allocation scandal.

“But for the vigilance of some enlightened citizens and NGOs…, unsuspecting citizens and the nation would never have known how scarce natural resource (airwaves) spared by the army has been grabbed by those who enjoy money power and who have been able to manipulate the system,” judges G.S. Singhvi and A.K. Ganguly said.
The judges did not name anyone. The 2G scam petitioners include Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy and lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who appeared for the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL).
They sought the cancellation of 2G licences granted during A. Raja’s tenure and the setting up of an expert committee to undertake day-to-day supervision of investigation by the CBI.
The apex court Thursday quashed all 122 licences for mobile phone services issued in 2008.
