New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Founder of the Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Monday appealed to the youth protesting against the gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl in the capital to remain calm, saying that “justice cannot be brought by violence”.

“I appeal to the youth to exercise restraint and keep anti-social elements and vested political interests away. Protest is essential to bring awareness, but not beyond that. Otherwise we will be defeating the very cause,” the spiritual guru said in a statement.
“Action should replace anger. Volunteer for a better India,” he added.
The protest turned ugly Saturday and Sunday after police resorted to caning and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesters at India Gate. Many were also drenched as water cannons were used in the winter chill.
The protesters, many of them students, are demanding justice for the woman who was brutally gang-raped last week and now battles for life in a hospital here.
