Kolkata, Sep 2 (IANS) Renewable energy expert S.P. Gon Chaudhuri was robbed of cash and valuables, including medals, after armed assailants barged into his house, the scientist said Monday.

The incident occurred Sunday night, when a gang of four forcibly entered Chaudhuri’s house in Kalikapur near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, and robbed him at gunpoint.
“A gang of four men, all armed, entered the house and took away some cash, mobile phones and a few medals,” said Chaudhuri, who also filed a police complaint in this regard.
Choudhury also pointed to the need for a police post in the area where he lived.
“The area where my house is located is a developing area with lot of construction going on. I feel there is a need to set up a police post in all such developing areas as they are vulnerable to robbery and other crimes,” Chaudhuri said.
Chaudhuri is the winner of the Ashden Award, a recognition for practical, local energy solutions that cut carbon and protect the environment. Chaudhuri’s work on solar energy has benefitted rural communities in different parts of the world.
