Mumbai, Aug 16 (IANS) Designers at the ongoing India International Jewellery week (IIJW) are trying their best to innovate and bring forth themes that are interesting and out-of-the-box. Following this mantra, Eekani Jewels showcased a Lord Krishna themed collection named Kanhai.
Themed on Krishna and his crown jewel, the vibrant peacock feather, Kanhai symbolised the essence of the universal appeal and presence of Krishna and his peacock feather. Keeping that in mind, Eekani’s collection had an Indo-Western appeal with diamonds and coloured gemstones.
‘The designs and jewellery from the Kanhai collection capture the vivid hues of the peacock feather through handpicked precious stones and jewels in azures, emeralds, citrines, amethysts et al,’ Eekani’s Khyati Dani told IANS.
Unlike other shows, the Eekani collection focussed more on earrings and cocktail rings. When asked about this, Dani said: ‘Our forte is designing earrings and rings and we wanted to carry that forward, hence we focussed more on what we have expertise in.’
The next show, titled Kundan-Meena, put together by non-profit organisation Jaipur Jewellery Show, was equally enthralling with large and elaborate kundan jewellery pieces.
The beautifully crafted pieces included bazubandhs, spread-out neck pieces, intricately designed earrings and carved bangles.
Asked what was so unique in their collection, since Kundan has been showcased by other designers as well, designer Abhishek Raniwala told IANS: ‘Kundan jewellery is a vast subject and can be explored in many ways.’
‘We have tried to bring back ‘kanphools’ (earrings that cover the entire ear), maang tikkas and some other designs that were prevalent but have not been touched upon for sometime now. We tried to show that kundan jewellery has a wide range of possibilities,’ he added.
The jewellery in the show was opulent and bold and captivated the mind with its beauty. However, you won’t be able to lay your hands on it without burning a hole in your pocket.
The price of the pieces showcased in the collection start at
Rs.200,000 and truly go through the roof.
