New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said Tuesday that people’s issues had found lower priority during the monsoon session of parliament and it seemed that the policies of the government were not oriented towards the common man.
CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said here that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not take part in discussions on price rise or the situation in Kashmir or the Bhopal gas tragedy but participated in the debate on the nuclear liability bill.
‘This tells you what the priorities of the government are… I don’t think we need to comment further,’ Yechury said.
He said it was the first time that the chair moved a resolution on policies that impacted the livelihood of people, which was accepted unanimously.
He said that while the positive element was availability of the prime minister throughout the session as he did not go on a foreign visit, the negative aspect was that he did not participate in discussions.
‘People’s issues found lower priority’ and many issues such as Bharat Nirman and the situation of flood and drought in the country should have been discussed, Yechury said, adding that his party also wanted a discussion on internal security and increase in rail accidents.
