Kolkata, March 2 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Akash Banerjee and three others, arrested for assaulting a traffic police officer, were granted bail by a court here Friday.
Alipore chief judicial magistrate S.M. Shahnawaz granted bail to them on a personal bond of Rs.1,000 each after they were produced in the court.
The accused, arrested Wednesday, were sent to one-day judicial remand Thursday.
The four were accused of assaulting traffic policeman Subir Ghosh and a police driver.
The incident occurred when the accused were pulled up for obstructing traffic by violating a traffic signal.
Akash allegedly revealed his identity to the police and all four were let off. But once the electronic media splashed the story, they were arrested.
The court will hear the case Aug 16.
