Kolkata, Dec 26 (IANS) Two days after the molestation of a 51-year-old mentally challenged woman at a deserted bus depot in south Kolkata, police are yet to arrest the accused.
Locals claim they had apprehended the offender and handed him over to police, which the police deny.
A medical test to determine if the victim was raped has been conducted and efforts are on to nab the culprit, police said.
The victim, a vagabond, has been sent to a state-run home.
The man allegedly tried to rape the woman inside a bus parked at a bus depot at Thakurpukur.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and caught the offender. The accused escaped from police while they were talking to the victim.
Locals took photographs of the accused with cellphones, which are being used by the police to apprehend him.
A case was registered at the Thakurpukur police station Monday for assaulting the woman with the intent to outrage her modesty.
