Kolkata, July 3 (IANS) A man involved in illegal coal mining and in several other cases was arrested Sunday in West Bengal’s Burdwan district, police said.

‘Raju Jha was arrested from Searsole in Raniganj,’ said Burdwan Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir.

The police launched a crackdown against those involved in illegal coal mining following a diktat from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee soon after assuming power in May.

Banerjee ordered action in the wake of the killing of three people, allegedly by those involved in illegal coal mining, in the district June 2.
