Bhubaneswar, Aug 30 (IANS) A Maoist was killed in a fierce gun battle with police in Odisha’s Bolangir district Friday, an official said.
Based on a tipoff about Maoists’ presence in a forested area, a group of Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel raided the area in the district, about 450 km from Bhubaneswar, but were fired upon.
The SOG retaliated and a Maoist, aged 25-30, was killed in the exchange of fire, District Superintendent of Police R.Prakash told IANS.
Although the rebels fled to the nearby forest, police recovered the body of the deceased, he said. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site, he added.
The latest incident comes three days after four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed in a Maoist blast in the state’s Koraput district.
