Ranchi, Sep 14 (Inditop.com) A hyena which had created terror in villages around the Jharkhand capital, biting around 15 people in the last week, was found dead Sunday night, forest officials said Monday.
The hyena’s carcass was found from Hapadag forest on the outskirts of Ranchi Sunday night, the officials said, adding it had succumbed to injuries it suffered when the villagers attacked it.
Villagers in the area sighed with relief while many shouted “lakadbagga mar gaya (the hyena is dead)”. Some of the villagers Monday offered sweets to god Hanuman to celebrate.
“We cannot express our feelings. The hyena wreaked havoc in the area. Thank god, it is dead,” said Shyamlal, a resident of Mansabera village which comes under Angada block, where the 15 victims hail from.
“We were scared when our children used to play outside the house. The hyena was roaming free despite the fact that it was infected with rabies,” Lalmati Devi, another village resident, said.
Earlier, a hyena had bitten around 21 people of Lali village of Namkom block of Ranchi, out of which six people died as they were not administered anti-rabies vaccine in time. They hyena was cornered and killed by the angry residents.
Both Angada and Namkom blocks are situated around 20 km from Ranchi.
