Mumbai, Jan 2 (IANS) Automobile major Maruti Suzuki reported a 7 percent drop in December sales — the seventh straight month of decline — with 92,161 vehicles sold in the month against 99,225 vehicles during December 2010.

Total domestic sales were logged at 77,475 units, a 13.4 percent drop from the 89,469 in December 2010, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Exports, however, recorded a whopping 50.5 percent jump at 14,686 vehicles sold during the month under review against 9,756 units sold during the corresponding period of 2010.

The mini passenger vehicle segment (Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon-R) saw sales drop 15.6 percent in December.

The compact segment, which has Swift, Estilo and Ritz models, saw a 0.5 percent rise in sales in the month.

Cars such as Dzire reported an increase of 6.8 percent at 9,189 units sold during the month under review against 8,601 units reported in December 2010.

Sales of SX4 in the sedan segment cars reported an increase of 10.8 percent in the month under review and stood at 843 units as compared to 761 units in the like period in 2010.
