Raipur, May 1 (Inditop) The mercury has crossed the 46 degree Celsius mark for the first time this summer in Chhattisgarh with the city of Bilaspur recording 46.1 degrees, while the capital Raipur and other major towns recorded temperatures of around 45 degrees.
The Meteorological department said Friday that the state has been in the grip of a heat wave. For the first time in the past 10 years the mercury went past 46 degrees Celsius in April with the state’s second most populous town, Bilaspur, recording 46.1 degree Celsius Thursday.
“The hot wind coming in from western India has swept across the state and mercury is set to rise further in the first week of May,” M.L. Sahu, director of the Raipur-based Meteorological office, told reporters.
The current heat wave has flooded government district hospitals in all the 18 districts with patients suffering from heat stroke. Seventy two heat stroke victims have been admitted to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Hospital here alone.
