New Delhi, Feb 1 (Inditop.com) The National Commission for Women (NCW) Monday signed an agreement with United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to check the cases of trafficking in women in the country.
Both organisations will also work together to develop strategies to reduce all forms of violence against women.
“Women are primarily trafficked from rural areas, whereas there is a dearth of institutionalised prevention mechanisms in these source areas. This programme is an attempt to bridge that gap and make prevention services accessible at village level,” said Anne F. Stenhammer, UNIFEM regional programme director for South Asia.
This programme also aims at addressing HIV and AIDS prevention together with anti-trafficking efforts and in this way generate a synergy to reduce women’s vulnerability to both.
“The partnership would entail working on prevention, protection, rehabilitation and reintegration of trafficked victims in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal,” NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said.
