New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Thursday asked Delhi government to provide monetary relief of Rs.5 lakh to a minor girl molested by a police constable, said an NHRC official.
The apex rights panel also called for a compliance report from the chief secretary along with a proof of payment to the victim.
The government has been directed to put the amount into a fixed deposit in the victim’s name so that the interest generated from the amount can be used by her guardian for her welfare.
“The principal, together with any accrued interest, would be at her disposal when she becomes an adult,” said a NHRC official.
The girl, then aged 12, was reportedly molested by a Delhi Police constable Feb 13, 2012.
