New Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) Delhi Police will now trail call centre vehicles to monitor if the drivers drop the staffers at their home or some distance away, Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta announced Thursday.
‘Delhi Police will trail vehicles responsible for transporting call centre employees to monitor their movement. Any vehicles found cutting short routes and not dropping the employee to the predecided destinations will be punished accordingly,’ he said.
Delhi police held a meeting with managers of several BPOs Nov 18 to reiterate the security measures that the companies need to take to secure their employees.
‘Our special cell had a meeting with BPO companies’ managers, where we told them to outsource their transportation facilities to parties that are authorised and verified by police,’ Gupta said.
According to police data, around 2,000 vehicles ferry BPO employees around various destinations in the National Capital Region between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. every day.
The police measure comes against the backdrop of the case of a call centre employee from Mizoram who was abducted by four men, after being dropped just 100 metres away from her home, and gangraped in a moving goods carrier on Wednesday last week. Two of the five accused have been arrested and a third has surrendered in Haryana, Delhi Police said Thursday.
