Jammu, Dec 31 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday complimented the people of the state for making 2011 one of the most peaceful years in decades.

‘As 2011 draws to a close, my heartfelt gratitude to the people of J&K for one of the most peaceful years in decades. It was ALL your doing,’ Abdullah, who faced flak when 2010 ended with a trail of violence, street protests and killings, wrote on Twitter.

The chief minister has been selling 2011 as his achievement year when panchayat elections were held in the state after 10 years, the streets remained quiet and separatists and other troublemakers remained confined to their homes.

Since 1990 when militancy erupted in Kashmir, 2011 has been the quietest year so far, with almost negligible violence and absence of street protests in the valley.
