New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) A 24-year-old man accused of murdering an engineering student whose body was found near a metro station in west Delhi on June 28 has been arrested, police said Friday.
Rajesh Kumar murdered Anand Raut on June 25 after a failed robbery attempt. The 21-year-old victim’s body was found June 28 near Shastri Park Metro Station in west Delhi.
The victim was a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and met Kumar on board the Malwa Express June 25. Raut was to appear for an entrance exam of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in the city, said police.
‘The duo became friends and even stayed together in a hotel in Paharganj (Central Delhi) and went shopping together the next day,’ said a police official.
Upon realizing that the victim was carrying his ATM card with him, Kumar decided to rob him and took him to a deserted spot in Yamuna Khadar area in east Delhi.
‘When Raut refused to let go of his card, the accused attacked him with a knife and after stabbing him, slit his throat and got away with the victim’s mobile phone and wallet,’ added the official.
According to police, the accused was traced by putting the victim’s phone on surveillance and was arrested from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh June 30.
