New Delhi, Oct 13 (IANS) A Delhi court Thursday remanded in judicial custody for a day three people accused of roughing up senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan in his Supreme Court chamber Wednesday.

Officiating Metropolitan Magistrate Jasjeet Kaur, ordering the remand of Inder Verma, Vishnu Gupta and Tejender Pal Singh Bagga, said: ‘The police’s plea will be heard by the concerned court tomorrow.’

The three youths stormed into the jurist’s chamber and one of them –identified as Inder Verma — started beating him up. Verma was later overpowered by lawyers and others present in the room.

Bhushan later said the youths objected to his comments on the need for a referendum in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the accused also filed a regular bail plea before the court. The judge posted the application for Oct 14.

Verma, who was arrested shortly after the incident, lives in Nangloi. He is said to be a Sri Ram Sene activist while the other two are stated to be from the Bhagat Singh Sena.

Gupta and Bagga were arrested Thursday, a day after the incident, from Baba Kharak Singh Marg area of central Delhi. They were absconding after the incident took place.

TV channel Times Now, which showed visuals of the incident, said its crew was with Prashant Bhushan at the time for his comments on the Lokpal bill.

He is a key member of Team Anna that has been campaigning against corruption.

Bhushan had gone to Varanasi two weeks ago, where he was asked at a press conference if he would favour a referendum in Kashmir. He had replied that there could be a referendum.

It is this that angered the two groups, Bhushan said.
