New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS) The wife of a cash van driver who drugged three employees Sep 28 and fled with Rs.51 lakh has been arrested and Rs.47 lakh recovered from her possession, police said Tuesday.
Geeta, 30, wife of main accused Ompal Singh, was arrested from east Delhi’s Durgapuri Monday.
“Rs.47 lakh was recovered from her possession, but she is denying knowing where Ompal Singh is,” Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Karunakaran said.
Geeta told investigators that Ompal, who belongs to west Delhi’s Kanjhawla, is a history sheeter and was absconding from the area for last seven to eight years.
“Ompal was previously involved in various cases of robbery, theft and snatching in Delhi and NCR. Both he and Geeta kept changing their addresses to evade surveillance,” Karunakaran said.
Ompal got a driver’s job with a private security company and told his wife that he would decamp with the cash after drugging his colleagues.
Ompal and Geeta rented a flat in west Delhi’s Narela 10 days before the crime.
“A hunt is on for Ompal who fled after giving the cash to Geeta,” the officer said.
A case was registered with west Delhi’s Mahendra Park police station.
Ompal fled with the cash van Maruti Eeco Sep 28 after drugging a gunman, Brijesh, and Hemant and Yogesh, employees of security firm Logi Cash Solution Pvt. Ltd., which replenishes cash from banks to various ATMs in Delhi.
They left their Jhandewalan office with Rs.81 lakh, which was to be loaded in ATMs of Oriental Bank of Commerce, Central Bank of India and United Bank of India.
“After loading Rs.30 lakh in different ATMs, the employees reached Ghanta Ghar where Ompal offered them sweets laced with sedatives. The three employees became unconscious near Kirori Mal College of Delhi University,” Karunakaran said.
The van was found abandoned near west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri metro station with the unconscious trio inside.
