New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) India knows that gangster-turned-terrorist Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan and has taken up the issue of his extradition many a time, but Islamabad is in flat denial, said Home Minister P. Chidambaram Friday.
‘This is not new. We know where he is. No one will allow us to go there,’ Chidambaram told reporters when asked about his reaction to the lavish reception Dawood Ibrahim hosted for his son’s wedding in Karachi recently.
‘I have raised it with my Pakistani counterparts. They are in flat denial. They deny that he is in Pakistan. What is it that we can do from India,’ he asked.
The external affairs ministry Thursday said the Pakistani authorities had said that Ibrahim was not in their country.
Ibrahim’s name figures in the list of over 20 Indians whom New Delhi wants extradited due to their links with criminal and terrorist activities in the country.
The list has been given to Pakistan many a time, but Islamabad has repeatedly denied their presence in its territory.
Ibrahim is wanted for facing trial in India for allegedly organising and financing the 1993 bombings in Mumbai. He is on the wanted list of the Interpol for organised crime and counterfeiting.
