New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil will visit Leh Wednesday and meet people affected by the devastating Aug 6 flash floods that killed at least 183 people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region.

‘The president will be visiting Leh tomorrow. During her stay, the president will tour the affected areas and meet people at the relief camp,’ a statement issued here said.

She will also ‘be briefed by civil and military officials about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations’ in Leh.

On Aug 6, flash floods triggered by a cloud burst devastated large parts of Ladakh’s biggest town Leh. At least 183 people were killed and 200 people are still missing.

‘The president will be distributing shawls and sweaters to the affected people in the camp,’ it added. Patil will later address defence personnel in Leh.

On Aug 23, Patil had contributed Rs.1 lakh towards the prime minister’s national relief fund for rehabilitation of victims.
