Gurgaon, Jan 30 (IANS) Over 200 people pelted stones Thursday at the house and cars of the employer of a minor girl who allegedly committed suicide. The protestors said the girl had been raped annd murdered.
The girl is suspected to have committed suicide here Wednesday, police said.
Among the protestors were the parents of the 16-year-old girl.
Shabina, daughter of Nawab Khan, had been working for about three years as a domestic help at the house of Vijay Beri, a senior executive in a multinational company.
Beri lives in DLF Phase 3 in Gurgaon, as part of a joint family of nine members. Two male servants, about 20 years old, also worked in the household. While the girl had a separate space to sleep in, she used the same bathroom as the male servants.
The girl’s body was found hanging in the bathroom of the servants’ quarters Wednesday afternoon.
The Beri family told police that Shabina had gone for a bath around 11.30 a.m. Wednesday and never returned.
Another servant, who awaited his turn for a bath, informed the family that Shabina had locked herself in the bathroom and was not responding to knocks on the door or calls.
No suicide note was found.
People who had gathered to protest the death Thursday shouted slogans against the Beri family and also the police, saying the girl had been raped and killed and it was not a case of suicide.
“A board of three doctors headed by Deepak Mathur, Hazari Lal and Rinku Sharma conducted a post-mortem examination, as demanded by the girl’s family,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (DLF) Dalbir Singh told IANS.
“We have sent the vaginal swab of the deceased to forensic science laboratory (FSL) Madhuban for examination and are waiting for the report,” Singh said.
He said the post-mortem report was also awaited and the opinion of doctors would be taken for further action. At present, police were taking action under Section 174 (police to inquire and report on suicide) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The victim hailed from Bharatpur district in Rajasthan.
Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 427 (mischief and damaging property) 451 (home trespass) of the Indian Penal Code were invoked against the protestors even though no one was arrested, police said.
