Bangalore, Aug 25 (IANS) A day after Karnataka Home Minister V.S. Acharya said that People’s Democratic Party chief Abdul Nasir Maudany had a hand in the twin blasts at a stadium here in April, the city police chief said Wednesday it has not been proved.

‘I would not like to comment on the home minister’s statements,’ Bangalore city Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari told reporters here.

‘However, Maudany’s role in the stadium explosions has not been proved so far,’ he added.

The twin blasts, outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the heart of the city, took place ahead of the Indian Premier League T20 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians April 17. The blasts left 15 people injured.

Maudany has been arrested by police as he is suspected to be involved in the serial blasts in the city in July 2008, that left one woman dead and 15 injured.

The PDP chief is 31st accused out of the 32 chargesheeted in the 2008 case.

‘He has a hand in them (twin blasts) also,’ the home minister said responding to questions on what police had gathered from Maudany during interrogation in the last six days.

The PDP chief was arrested by the Karnataka Police from his camp in Kerala Aug 17. His police custody will end Aug 26.

‘If necessary, we will seek the extension of police custody of Maudany,’ Bidari said, repeating the stand taken by the home minister.

Maudany has denied his involvement in the 2008 blasts.

After Acharya’s statement on Maudany’s possible role in the stadium blasts, PDP chief’s counsel P. Usman had denied in Thiruvananthapuram that his client had confessed to his involvement in the two incidents.
