Gurgaon, Nov 1 (IANS) Eighteen Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were Thursday presented with the President Police Medal at the Kadarpur CRPF Academy campus here.
Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde presented the awards at a function to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of CRPF.
While five CRPF personnel were given the award for gallantry, 13 received the honour for distinguished service.
A. Anandan of the 21st company of CRPF was awarded the prestigious medal posthumously. He killed two hardcore militant in Kashmir and himself succumbed to injuries.
The other recipients of the award are Deputy Commandant Prakash Ranjan Mishra, Assistant Commandant S. Salim Kumar, Head Constable Ramchander and Constable Surjeet Singh.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) N.R.K. Reddy, IGP Ashutosh Shukla and IGP N.C. Asthana received the President Police Medal for distinguished service.
Others who received the award for distinguished service are Inspector General (retd) B.R. Kamath, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) K.S. Bhandari, DIG Pradeep Kumar Singh, DIG (retd) Satender Pal Singh, DIG (retd) Ravinder Singh Badesra, DIG (retd) Jagrup Singh, Asstt. Comdt. Promod Kumar and C.H. Vijayan, Inspector Saudan Singh and Sub-Inspector Babu Lal.
The 50th battalion from Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) Theatre, 76th battalion from Jammu and Kashmir and 32nd battalion from northeast were declared best in operations. Pinjore claimed the best group centre, while Neemuch was awarded best innovative training institute.
According to official records, this year CRPF troopers killed 86 militants and Maoist guerrillas till Oct 29, while 968 extremists surrendered and 1,538 were arrested.
