New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari Tuesday greeted the nation on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, which will be celebrated Wednesday.

In his message, the president said: “On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens and, in particular, to my Muslim brothers and sisters.”
Stressing the need to emulate Prophet Abraham by following the path of “selfless sacrifice and forgiveness”, Mukherjee said “the spirit of sacrifice and service” is the essence of Eid-ul-Azha.
“We must derive inspiration from the observance of this day and strive to foster universal brotherhood. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, let us remind ourselves of the unity of mankind and resolve to strive for communal harmony and peace,” said the president.
“May the festival knit all the people of India in a celebration of our composite culture,” he said.
Vice President Hamid Ansari in his message said that the festival celebrated the treasured ideals of compassion, sharing and sacrifice.
“I extend my greetings and good wishes to all our citizens on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Let us observe this joyous occasion by spreading the message of peace, harmony and goodwill in our midst,” he said.
