Ghaziabad, March 1 (IANS) A prisoner facing trial hurled his slipper at Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kiran Bala here Tuesday, only to get fined Rs.2,000 and jailed for a month.

Karan Bahadur (23), who has been in prison for eight months for petty crimes, reacted violently when he was produced in the court at around 3.30 p.m.

According to witnesses, he suddenly took off his slippers and threw one at the magistrate.

He was immediately taken out of the courtroom. The judge also left for her chamber and referred the matter to the district judge.

Sanjay Tyagi, a lawyer who was in the court, said: ‘This is not new to the Ghaziabad courts. Many similar incidents have occurred in the past.’

Bahadur, who is from Pokhra in Nepal, faces charges of theft and dealing with stolen property. He was arrested in Ghaziabad and has been lodged in Dasna jail since Aug 10, 2010.
