Chandigarh, Nov 9 (Inditop.com) Moderate to heavy showers lashed this union territory and neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana Monday, leading to a drop in temperature.

“This rainfall was due to strong western disturbances. There was moderate to heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Punjab and Haryana, whereas it drizzled in most of the region,” Chandigarh meteorological centre director Chatar Singh Malik told Inditop.

“With this rain, both day and night temperatures are expected to drop by at least four to five degrees Celsius. Clouds will prevail in the region. More such showers are predicted especially Nov 13-16 that will mark the advent of winter here,” he said.

The sudden downpour and thunderstorm also reduced the visibility, derailing normal life.

“I got late for my office due to this rain. I had to stop my scooter on the roadside as due to strong winds it was almost impossible to drive,” Sunny Sharma, a bank executive, told Inditop.

Minimum temperature were recorded at 15.2 and 15.9 degrees Celsius in Ludhiana and Patiala cities in Punjab Monday, whereas in holy city Amritsar it was 14.8 degrees.

In Haryana, minimum temperature at Ambala was recorded at 14.5 degrees Celsius whereas in Hisar it was 17.1 degrees.

Minimum temperature at joint capital of Punjab and Haryana – Chandigarh – was at 15.6 degrees Celsius Monday.
