New Delhi, Jan 13 (Inditop.com) Early morning rolls of thunder sent Delhiites scurrying for their hoods Wednesday, but the short drizzle led to a rise in temperature, bringing respite from the cold wave. The weatherman said scattered rainfall is likely to continue till the evening.
The minimum temperature recorded Wednesday was 8.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above average for this time of the year, and visibility at 9 a.m. was 300 metres, an official at the India Meteorological Department told Inditop.
“It will be partly cloudy in the day. Rains are likely to continue till the evening. We expect fog Thursday morning,” the official said.
The minimum temperature could dip to 7 degrees Celsius Wednesday, and the maximum is likely to hover around 15 degrees Celsius.
Poor visibility has not interfered with flight take off or landing till 9 a.m. at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. “All operations till now are normal,” an IGI airport spokesperson said.
But at least 15 trains were delayed due to backlog of the past few days.
“There are 15 delays today (Wednesday). The backlog from the past few days is still going on,” a Northern Railways official told Inditop.
Around 20 trains to destinations in northern India have been cancelled, the railways website said.
Traffic was crawling on the capital’s roads in the morning hours, with faulty signals adding to commuter woes.
“Due to weather, traffic is a problem in some areas. But we have deployed more personnel to man each signal. The situation today is considerably better,” Joint Commissioner of Police traffic Satyender Garg told Inditop.
