Ghaziabad, Sep 29 (IANS) A group of Ghaziabad residents Thursday protested against what they called police excesses against a local councillor whose house was allegedly ransacked a day earlier by the men in uniform. The councillor was earlier booked for assaulting power corporation officials.
Mayor Damyanti Goel, area legislator and Bharatiya Janata Party office bearers alleged that police barged into the councillor’s house and ransacked it, roughed up women at his house and beat up his domestic help.
They demanded action against the Indirapuram police station chief.
Superintendent of Police (City) J.K. Sahi said the councillor earlier ransacked the power corporation office and injured the officers posted there.
A criminal case was registered against him and he was given time to surrender before the police but he failed to do so. Police then raided his house to arrest him, he said.
‘We have received a memorandum submitted by the BJP office bearers. The police are looking into it. Appropriate action would be taken against the erring policemen if found guilty,’ said Sahi.
