New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) The government has spent Rs.896.05 crore so far under the Ganga Action Plan for cleaning the river, parliament was told Tuesday.
Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan told the Rajya Sabha that the central government constituted the National Ganga River Basin Authority in February 2009 as an empowered authority for conservation of the Ganga.
‘Discharge standards have been notified for industries and state pollution authorities have been empowered to take appropriate action against defaulting authorities,’ she said.
