Mumbai, Nov 3 (IANS) Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragyna Singh Thakur has sought police protection in the Byculla District Jail after she was allegedly assaulted by some African women prisoners, her lawyer said Thursday.

‘I shall be moving an application before Special Judge MCOCA Court tomorrow (Friday) morning since her life could be in danger,’ advocate Ganesh Sovani told IANS.

Recounting the incident, Sovani said on Nov 1, Sadhvi told her brother-in-law Bhagwan Jha about the Oct 27 incident.

‘Some African female undertrials created huge problems for Sadhvi and her colleague Rita Jaiswal,’ Sovani said.

When the jail authorities were alerted, they could not reportedly control the African inmates.

He said Jha has filed the application in the Special Court seeking an inquiry into the incident and appropriate steps to ensure the safety and security of Sadhvi and Jaiswal.

Sadhvi Pragyna, who has been in the custody of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad since the past over three years, had been assaulted by a female undertrial nearly two years ago.

She is one of the prime accused in the Sep 29, 2008 Malegaon blast which killed six people and injured 100. The case is handled by the National Investigation Agency.
