New Delhi, March 28 (IANS) Delhi Police Wednesday increased security arrangements at the luxury hotel where Chinese President Hu Jintao and his delegation will be staying during the five-nation BRICS summit, after a Tibetan youth who set himself on fire two days ago succumbed.

The three-tier security arrangements at the summit venue were also replicated at the capital’s Oberoi hotel where Hu is staying during his two-day visit.
Police have barricaded all roads approaching the hotel with the heaviest deployment at the road leading to the hotel’s main entrance.
Further, a mixed force of uniformed and plain clothes policemen along with the hotel’s security guards manned all the entrances to the hotel grounds.
Once inside the hotel, a heavy deployment of Delhi Police officials in plain clothes and embassy officials was stationed in the hotel lobby.
People were allowed inside the hotel premises only after rigorous frisking and no one was allowed to talk to either the security personnel or the Chinese delegates without a prior security clearance.
Even the hotel staff were keeping a watchful eye on the guests of the hotel and were investigating any suspicious activity.
According to police sources, the floors above and below the suites where the delegates will be staying, have been vacated until the summit is over.
The security forces are on high alert following the death of 27-year-old Jamphel Yeshi, the Tibetan protester who had suffered more than 90 percent burn injuries in his self-immolation attempt Monday. Yeshi died at the capital’s Ram Manohar Lohia hospital Wednesday morning.
