Mumbai, Sep 2 (IANS) Led by robust buying in heavyweights, including Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and SBI, a benchmark index for Indian equities markets closed Friday about 151 points higher.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,963.67 points, closed at 16,827.93 points (provisional) — up 151.18 points or 0.91 percent from its previous close at 16,676.75 points.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended higher, 0.9 percent up at 5,045.85 points.

Broader markets too closed in the green. The BSE midcap index closed 0.9 percent higher, while the BSE small cap index ended flat.

For the week, the Sensex and Nifty gained about six percent, thanks to the rally seen Monday and Tuesday.
