Guwahati, Aug 1 (IANS) In a road accident, six people, four of them from a family, were killed on the spot Wednesday in Assam when the ambulance in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck, police said.
The accident took place near Nellie in Morigaon district in the early hours of Wednesday, police said. The dead included a woman and the patient who was being taken for treatment to Guwahati.
“Six people, including a patient, were coming in an ambulance to Guwahati from Dhansiri near Tezpur. The ambulance collided head-on with a truck coming from opposite direction around 1.45 a.m. Wednesday. All the six people, including the patient, died on the spot,” police said.
Police said those killed included Kanak Basumatary, a patient who had been referred to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati by a local hospital in Tezpur.
The other three who were killed were Maheswar Basumatary, Jayshri Basumatary, Pranab Basumatary, police said. All the four belonged to one family.
The driver of the ambulance, Imran Ali, and his helper D. Kalita were also killed in the accident.
