Panaji, Dec 24 (IANS) Roy Naik, the son of former Goa home minister Ravi Naik, Monday denied any link to an arrested Israeli drug dealer after a section of the media, based on an Interpol report, highlighted his involvement in narcotics trade in the state.
“I was not in the drugs business at any time. These are all wrong allegations aimed at defaming my father who was the home minister in the Congress government,” Roy Naik told a press conference here.
Swedish model Lucky Farmhouse, a former girlfriend of Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, has accused Roy of supplying drugs to Atala. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already arrested Atala.
A section of the media, quoting Lucky’s statement translated from Swedish to English by the international police organisation Interpol, reported that Roy had sold drugs to Atala several times in the past.
The reports also said the statement had been recorded some months ago, but both the CBI as well as the Crime Branch failed to act against Roy.
“The CBI called me for questioning five times. Never did they ask me about Lucky,” Roy said.
Fiona Mackeown, mother of slain British teenager Scarlett Keeling, has also accused Roy and his politician father of being part of a drug nexus in Goa.
As many as eight policemen have been arrested in connection with the police-politician-drug mafia nexus exposed in 2010. The case was later handed over to the CBI.
