New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) Delhiites were Tuesday urged by the government to spruce up their houses and their surroundings ahead of the Commonwealth Games starting Oct 3 to make the city look ‘clean and attractive’.

Backing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s appeal to treat the Games as a festival, Delhi’s Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia said people should give due emphasis on cleaning, white-washing and painting their homes.

About 100,000 visitors, athletes and delegates are expected to throng the capital during the mega event.

Wali asked residents of the capital to advance their Dussehra and Diwali festive mood by a month.

‘This will go a long way in projecting the best image of the city with people’s voluntary participation,’ he added.
