New Delhi, June 17 (IANS) A student who sent an impersonator to write his engineering entrance exam at the Jamia Milia Islamia University was caught by the interiew board because of a photograph taken on the test day.
The photograph taken by the university administration May 29 during the entrance test did not match with that of Mohammed Ishtiyaque Alam, who appeared for the interview Thursday.
‘On interogation Alam told the university staff that he needed a B.Tech seat in the university, so he paid Rs 80,000 to the impersonator for writing the test on his behalf,’ Simi Malhotra, the university’s media coordinator, told IANS.
This is fifth impersonation case identified by the authorities this year. In addition to photographing of candidates, the university has also appointed identification officers at all the test centres.
‘The university’s new practice of photographing candidates appearing at various stages of the selection process has helped a lot to curb such impersonation by the students,’ Malhotra said.
Alam’s result has been cancelled and the matter reported to the proctor of the university for necessary action.
