Gurgaon, Oct 2 (IANS) The Sultanpur National Bird Sanctuary here has been reopened for the public Tuesday after a delay of nearly a fortnight, a wildlife official said.
Visitors will be allowed till April 30, before it closes again.
“The bird sanctuary was scheduled to open Sep 16, but there was a delay of 20 days in the breeding cycle of Indian sarus cranes and the arrival of migratory birds from Siberia and Europe. This compelled us to keep park closed,” said a wildlife official.
The Indian sarus cranes usually complete their breeding cycle mid-September.
“The common teal, pintail, Eurasian teal, coot, shovellor and white eye pochard are the migratory birds that have arrived from Siberia and Europe. The rare Indian species like Sarus, black necked sarus or stork and painted stork have also landed in the park,” bird expert Suresh Kumar Bhardwaj told IANS.
The Sultanpur National Bird Sanctuary has over 140 species of birds, he added.
